Nicholas, Olga with her dog Ortino, Anastasia, and Alexei c.1917

Definitely 1917. And Ortino was Tatiana’s dog.

I am so excited about all of these pictures!

As requested by 3nightbird3: This is my favorite picture of the girls all smiling together. I love that they made a joke out of having their heads shaved instead of moping about it. I think that their inner beauty really shows in this picture. :)
Tatiana said in a letter to a friend from Siberia that when she had her hair cut short in 1913 after she had typhoid, she was embarrassed, but now that all of the sisters had short hair together, she didn’t mind it so much.

Two of the grand duchesses on the balcony of the Governor’s House in Tobolsk, 1917. A caption in another version of the photo identifies them as Maria and Anastasia (although to me it is really impossible to tell).

adrumadrum:

Anastasia and who? Looks like Maria, but not sure.

I’m pretty sure it’s Maria. She was very thin after her bout with the measles and pneumonia. The cheeks are too full and the eyes too large to be Tatiana.

This was taken at Tsarskoe Selo, not Tobolsk. You can see the Alexander Palace in the background.
